Tucked along London Road in Ascot, The Royal Foresters isn’t just a restaurant-it’s a slice of Berkshire history wrapped in modern charm. Whether you’re a local on the hunt for a cozy brunch spot or a traveler looking for a warm, pet-friendly restaurant with personality, this place delivers.
From the moment you walk in, it’s easy to see why The Royal Foresters has become a favorite for food lovers. The atmosphere strikes that perfect balance between classic British countryside and contemporary comfort. It’s got all the essential touches-free Wi-Fi, plenty of free parking, wheelchair accessibility, and a family-friendly vibe that feels just right for both lazy Sunday roasts and celebratory dinners.
When it comes to the food, The Royal Foresters offers a menu that speaks to every craving. If you’re stopping by for breakfast, you won’t want to miss the Full English Breakfast-a hearty, traditional plate that gets your day started right. Prefer something lighter? The Eggs Benedict (GFA) is a local favorite, creamy and indulgent without being too heavy.
Lunch and dinner are where things get even more exciting. The Porchetta is a showstopper-crispy on the outside, juicy and tender inside, served with seasoned potatoes that are worth the visit on their own. For something British and nostalgic, try the Adult Small Fish and Chips-a refined take on the pub classic.
And yes, if you're vegetarian or vegan, you’re still in for a treat. The Symplicity Burger (Ve) and Chaloumi salad offer rich flavors without compromising on freshness. Gluten-free and vegetarian options are clearly labeled and thoughtfully prepared-making it easy to dine with dietary preferences in mind.
Pair your meal with a cold beer or a crisp cider from the bar, or sip on a frothy cappuccino if you're just in for a coffee break. The drinks menu is well-rounded, featuring everything from classics to local finds. And don’t even think about leaving without trying the Chocolate Brownie (GF, V)-decadent, gooey, and gluten-free, it’s a crowd-pleaser across the board.
Part of what makes The Royal Foresters stand out is the ambiance. It’s not air-conditioned, but thanks to the smart layout and open space, it stays comfortable year-round. Dogs are welcome, which is always a plus for pet lovers looking for places that don’t just tolerate animals-they embrace them. It’s also a smoke-free environment, which helps keep the vibe clean and relaxing.
You’ll often find guests lounging with a drink at the bar or enjoying weekend brunch with the whole family. It’s also a great place for casual business lunches, thanks to strong Wi-Fi and quiet corners, even though there’s no formal business center. Service is generally prompt, and staff are known for being warm and accommodating.
While Ascot has no shortage of dining options, The Royal Foresters holds its own with a winning combo: diverse menu, reasonable prices, and a setting that feels upscale without being stuffy. If you’re torn between hitting a trendy gastropub or a classic country inn, this place gives you a bit of both.
It’s easy to see why people return again and again-whether it’s for a sizzling Beef Burger with Fries, a beautifully plated Caesar Salad, or a slow-cooked Roast Beef that tastes like Sunday comfort on a plate. The kitchen’s attention to detail and the chef’s love of bold, seasonal ingredients shine through in every dish.

I had a really enjoyable visit! The service was outstanding and the team made me feel welcome throughout my meal. The Chicken Caesar was tasty, although I was disappointed that the chicken pie and Eton mess weren’t available again. The atmosphere was nice, and everything was clean and well-kept. Overall, I’m looking forward to coming back and trying more from the menu!
A really mixed experience at The Royal Foresters. All the staff were excellent - particularly Louise who served our evening meal, and the lady (whose name I didn't take) who greeted me at reception and helped me with my bags. The cleaning staff were also really friendly ... but, I think everyone here is a bit over-stretched. Evening meal was good, but breakfast service was painfully slow. We waited a ridiculously long time for a simple croissant (which looked and tasted as though it had had a hard life) and the 'full English' was a sad looking plate of dry sausage and hard-centre poached eggs (I was looking forward to a runny egg!). Attention to the detail was missing ... had to ask three times to get the dirty bin in our room emptied (left by previous occupants), and dirty cups and cutlery (not ours) were left on a windowsill outside our room. The TV remote control didn't work (battery was oozing). Dirty crockery and cutlery didn't help ... but the staff were so run off their feet that we let it be. It may sound like tough feedback, but for £530 for two nights (this doesn't include our evening meal) I had hoped for more. I've rated The Foresters 4 Star because it's a lovely place, with a fabulous team ... but perhaps management need to ensure that there are enough staff to share the load.
Great little hotel in a solid location. Food is adequate. Very child friendly. Staff were super friendly and helpful! Special thanks to Elly for going above and beyond.
Love love it here! Stefan is an incredible manager and runs such a fabulous restaurant. Went there tonight and there was such an uplifting, and happy energy amongst his staff it lifted the whole restaurant. The new menu is just great and once again we had a delicious meal and were really looked after. Great service and great food - what more do you want on a night out! Thank you Stefan and the team! xx
The Foresters is a fantastic pub and restaurant on the outskirts of Ascot. The food here is great, the service is also good and the staff are friendly, welcoming and very helpful. I've attended a few events in the room they have available to hire, and now run a networking meeting from that room on Tuesday mornings for local businesses. The room is great, has a projector with wireless connectivity and is simple to use. The venue provide us with tea, coffee and pastries which are great. Overall, if you're looking for a space to hire for a function, going out for dinner, or are looking for somewhere upmarket for a few drinks, then the Royal Foresters has you covered.
